
Falcons Surrender Second Consecutive Game to Pirates

Portland, ME - The Springfield Falcons suffered their sixth straight game without a win in a 6-1 loss to the Portland Pirates on Saturday night at the Cross Insurance Arena.
Just 1:46 into the game Chase Balisy fired a shot off the wing to beat Falcons goalie Marek Langhamer five-hole for his eighth of the year. Wade Megan assisted on the goal. At 2:32, Wayne Simpson scored his seventh of the year to extend the Pirates lead to 2-0. Rob Schremp and Michael Matheson assisted on the goal. Brendan Shinnimin brought the game to a 2-1 score with a rebound goal at 7:56. His fifth of the year broke a seven-game pointless streak with assists from Philip Samuelsson and Dylan Reese. Both teams were awarded four power plays during the period. Portland was able to convert on their final man advantage of the frame with a goal from Balisy with three minutes left. His second of the night and ninth of the year was assisted by Simpson and Brent Regner. The Pirates carried a 3-1 lead into the second period.
The Pirates converted on another power 5:43 into the second period. Matheson blasted a shot from the point for his eighth of the year with assisted from Balisy and Regner. At 6:41 Corban Knight scored his third of the year to give the Pirates a 5-1 lead. Following the goal, Langhamer was pulled in favor of Niklas Treutle. With three seconds remaining in the period, Sena Acolatse scored on the power play for his sixth of the year. Rocco Grimaldi and Mackenzie Weegar assisted on the goal to finish the scoring through the second with a 6-1 Pirates lead.
The teams skated to a scoreless third period to conclude the game at a 6-1 Pirates win. Portland outshot Springfield 35-27. Langhamer was credited with the loss moving his record to 6-8-2 with 18 saves on 23 shots. Treutle made 13 saves on 14 shots in relief. McKenna won his Portland Pirates franchise-leading 80th win with 28 saves. His record improved to 29-14-5.
The Falcons continue their season-long seven-game road trip with a 7:05 p.m. game in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton against the Penguins on Tuesday night.
