POWER REPLAY: West Virginia lost both halves of Saturday's doubleheader by 8-7 walk-off defeats. In game one, the Power led 7-6 after four innings, but Casey Sadler allowed back-to-back base hits in the bottom of the seventh with runners on base and two outs to take the loss. In game two, the Power again led 7-6 going into the home half of the seventh, but Zach Foster allowed a double that brought home the tying and winning runs.
SWEPT ASIDE: West Virginia was swept by Kannapolis, losing five straight at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Power were swept only once during 2010, falling in a three game series against Lakewood at Appalachian Power Park from June 10 though 12. West Virginia had never been swept during any five game series in the history of the organization, and have only lost five straight games (or more) 10 times since 2005.
HARPERSTOWN SUNS: The Hagerstown Suns head to Charleston for a five game set starting tonight. Hagerstown's roster features the Washington Nationals top prospect Bryce Harper, the first overall selection during the 2010 draft. The gates at Appalachian Power Park will open early on Thursday, April 28 and Friday, April 29 so fans can watch both teams take batting practice. Members of the media will only be granted access to Harper after games that he has factored in.
SUNNY HISTORY: West Virginia leads the all time series with Hagerstown by two victories. The Power and Suns split a 10-game set in 2010 with West Virginia taking four of eight at Appalachian Power Park. The Power have the edge in their ownyard during this series, going 21-15 since 2005 against the Suns.
DOING THE POWER PROUD: Ramon Cabrera has played in 13 games for the Bradenton Marauders and ranks second in the Florida State League with a .432 average. Cabrera has 19 hits over 44 at bats, and trails only former first round pick Joe Savery atop the leader board. Savery converted from pitching to first base during the recent offseason.
ROSTER UPDATE: During the recent road trip, Pittsburgh promoted Ryan Beckman to Bradenton in the Florida State League. Beckman appeared in four games for West Virginia, and has pitched twice for the Marauders since his promotion on Thursday, having not won or lost a game, nor allowed a run as of yet.
PINPOINT CONTROL: West Virginia pitchers have combined to walk just 29 batters this season, by far the fewest in the league. Delmarva has played 20.1 more innings (but only one more game) than the Power, and is tied with Hickory at a league-high of 83 batters. The Crawdads have issued 83 over 143.0innings (17 games). West Virginia has also walked the fewest batters in all of Minor League Baseball, one fewer than Frederick of the Carolina League.
POWER POINTS: Power pitchers allowed as many earned runs in Tuesday's loss at Kannapolis as they did during the entire series at Augusta. They also walked as many batters Tuesday as they did during the whole Augusta set... Dan Grovatt has walked five times during this series and 11 times on this road trip. His season total of 14 walks is second in the SAL.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh lost 6-3 to Washington at PNC Park... Indianapolis rallied but could not overcome Columbus 6-4... Altoona did not play... Bradenton doubled up Palm Beach 6-3. Aaron Baker hit his third home run of the season, a first inning grand slam, to set to tone.
ON THE AIR: All 140 West Virginia Power games can be heard on ESPN 104.5 FM and 1490 AM in Charleston, WV, across the state on the Power Radio Network, and online at milb.com. Adam Marco will call the action for each of the 70 home games this season, while the home team will provide coverage while the Power are on the road.
