Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs begin their Summer Series "Party at the Park" on Wednesday, April 27, with the local band, Sol Driven Train, taking center stage.
Presented by Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, "Party at the Park" features $1 beer, live music, corn hole, Firefly and wing specials with proceeds benefitting Windwood Farm, a non-profit organization that is a home for children. Two more events are slated for June 30 and July 28.
Wednesday's party features the up-and-coming group, Sol Driven Train, which is influenced by the likes of Jon Prine, Paul Simon and Afro-Caribbean rhythmic explorations that translates into honest songs of life, love, loss and long johns. The five-piece band features rotating lead vocalists and multi-instrumental talent spread across horns, strings and percussion.
The group features Ward Buckheister on guitar, trombone and vocals; Rusty Cole on bass and vocals; Wes Powers on drums; Russell Clarke on saxophones and vocals, and Joel Timmons on guitar and vocals
Since the fall of 2005, "The Train" has been touring full-time, averaging 150 shows per year at festivals, theaters and bars, and now baseball parks. A year ago, they celebrated their 1,000th live show and 10 years together as a band. In that decade, they have shared stages with a diverse array of artists including Michael Franti, Richie Havens, Keller Williams, Arlo Guthrie and Blues Traveler.
"We're excited that Charleston will have another place to party this summer and we're especially thrilled to begin the summer series with Sol Driven Train," said Melissa Azevedo, the club's Director of Special Events. "The fun doesn't stop at The Joe just because there isn't a game."
The Joe's gates open at 6 pm and there is a $5 admission. The names of the two additional performing bands will be released soon.
Sponsoring the three events are Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka, Citadel Broadcasting and Charleston City Paper.
