Hagerstown Suns News Release

Charleston, WV---The Hagerstown Suns (11-7) pulled the plug on the West Virginia Power (6-11) Monday night at Appalachian Power Park, shutting out the home club 3-0.

The Suns received 8.0 scoreless innings from RHP Cameron Selik (2-0), the winning pitcher, who also received South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week Honors heading into the standoff. Selik struck out three and did not walk a single batter en route to his second victory of the season. Selik, the ace of the Hagerstown pitching staff, has not allowed a single earned run in 23.0 innings pitched in 2011.

West Virginia Power LHP Zack Dodson (1-2), the losing pitcher of record, went 5.0 frames and allowed three runs, two of them earned on seven hits while fanning five and walking three.

In the first inning, LF Randolph Oduber doubled into the right center field alley and would score on an error by the pitcher, Dodson. On a slow roller off to the right of the mound hit by C David Freitas, Dodson bobbled the grounder and kicked it into foul territory.

Suns run number two came to fruition in the fourth inning when CF Michael Taylor lined an RBI double to right center scoring SS Jason Martinson who singled as part of a three hit night at the plate. The final Hagerstown run of insurance was plated in the fifth stanza when DH Wade Moore, who has extended his on-base streak to 12 games, ripped an RBI single passed Power 1B Matt Curry to summon home 2B Adrian Sanchez, after he roped a single to center field.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Suns skipper Brian Daubach called upon LHP Chris Manno (2 SV in 3 SVO) to take the ball and close out the series opener in the fireman's role. Despite allowing an infield single to CF Mel Rojas Jr., Manno struck out the next three he faced to put an exclamation point on the Suns power outage of the hosting West Virginia club and seal the shutout by earning his second save in three chances. Manno threw a breaking ball to catch Curry looking and forced LF Rogelio Noris and DH Justin Howard to go down swinging to complete fanning the side.

The Suns will continue their five game series on Tuesday night for Game Two of their five game series against the West Virginia Power with a 7:05 first pitch. The first leg of their road trip will take the Suns through Friday night until the ballclub travels to Rome, GA to face the Braves for the second time this season at State Mutual Stadium for a quartet of games Saturday through Tuesday.
