Homestand Begins With Loss To Tourists

Rome, GA - The Asheville Tourists defeated the Rome Braves 12-3 Monday night in front of 1,897 fans at State Mutual Stadium. This was the first game in a five game series.

Asheville took an early 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Bryce Massanari. In the second inning, Cristhian Adames slams a two run homerun to left field giving the Tourists a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the second Rome added a run on an RBI single from Barrett Kleinknecht's for a 3-1 score.

In the third Asheville got that run back on a sacrifice fly by Massanari. The Braves inched closer with two runs in the third as Matt Lipka singled and went to third on an Elmer Reyes base hit. Edward Salcedo had an infield single to load the bases with nobody out. David Rohm then hit into a double play to score LIpka for the 4-2 score. Christian Bethancourt singled to left field with two outs to score Reyes making the score 4-3. That's as close the Braves would get the rest of the night.

The Tourists posted five runs in the fourth highlighted by RBI singles from Cristian Adames and Massanari. A bases clearing three RBI double by Kyle Parker gave the Tourists a commanding 9-3 lead. Asheville added a single run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth for the 12-3 win. Bryce Massanari had five RBI and Kyle Parker had three RBI on the night for Asheville.

Albert Campos (2-1) earns the win for Asheville, while Rome starter Steven Kent (1-2) takes the loss for Rome.

The two teams meet again tomorrow night at seven. It's KRAFT 2 for 1 ticket night. Fans presenting KRAFT singles wrappers get two tickets for the price of one.
