Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 25, 2011) - The Kannapolis Intimidators lost a wild series opener, 7-6, as the Lexington Legends used a walkoff passed ball in the 10th inning on Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the 10th, JR Ballinger's pitch got away from catcher Mike Blanke to bring home Ben Orloff from third, thwarting what would have been a 6-run comeback by Kannapolis.

The Intimidators trailed 6-0 as late as the seventh inning. Trailing by two going into the ninth inning, the Intimidators first three batters reached base on three straight Legends errors to pull within a run, and 2B Drew Lee singled home the tying run on a single to left field.

The Legends loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth with no outs, but Ballinger kept Lexington from crossing the plate to force extra innings. Ballinger (2-1) took the loss for the Intimidators. Brian Streilein (1-0) earned the win for Lexington.

Kannapolis scored the first runs against Tanner Bushue in his last 21 innings of work in the top of the seventh, striking for four runs. RF Ryan Hamme tripled, and DH Kenny Gilbert's sac fly brought him home. After a single by SS Kyle Eveland, CF Trayce Thompson doubled off the wall to score Eveland. Lee -- who entered the game for Ross Wilson in the first inning - followed with his first home run of the season to pull Kannapolis within two, 6-4, chasing Bushue from the game.

Lexington struck for two runs in the bottom of the first inning on Jiovanni Miller's third homerun of the season. Daniel Adamson tripled home Chris Wallace in the fourth inning for a 3-0 Lexington lead.

Intimidators starter LHP Spencer Arroyo struck out a season-high seven batters in five innings pitched, allowing three runs off five hits with no walks.

Mike Kvasnicka broke the game open for the Legends in the bottom of the sixth with a three-run homer off Intimidators reliever RHP Miguel Negron for a 6-0 Lexington lead.

Right-hander Leroy Hunt kept Kannapolis in the hunt, retiring all six batters he faced with scoreless seventh and eighth innings on the mound.

The Intimidators lost a walkoff game tonight after winning a pair of walkoff contests on Saturday in a doubleheader sweep over the West Virginia Power.

The Intimidators and Legends continue their five-game series with game two on Tuesday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Kannapolis right-hander Jake Petricka (1-0, 0.53) will take the ball against Lexington's lefty Brad Dydalewicz. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
