The Lexington Legends squandered a six-run lead, but recovered to beat the Kannapolis Intimidators 7-6 in 10 innings Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

The Legends jumped out a 2-0 lead in the first inning when leadoff hitter Delino DeShields Jr. beat out a bunt and Jiovanni Mier followed with his third home run of the year.

The Legends added another run in the third on a double by Chris Wallace and a triple by Daniel Adamson.

In the sixth, the Legends doubled their lead. Telvin Nash led off with a single, Wallace walked and Mike Kvasnicka homered to left center field. The three-run shot, Kvasnicka's first home run of the season, gave Lexington a 6-0 advantage.

Lexington starter Tanner Bushue was outstanding through six innings, shutting out the Intimidators on four hits. Bushue extended his scoreless inning streak to 21 before Kannapolis broke through in the seventh.

With one out, Ryan Hamme tripled . He scored on Kenny Gilbert's sacrifice fly to put Kannapolis on the board. Kyle Eveland followed with a single and came around to score on a double by Trayce Thompson. Drew Lee, who was born in Mount Sterling and played at Morehead State, homered down the left field line, cutting the lead to two at 6-4. Lee did not start the game, but entered as a pinch runner when second baseman Ross Wilson was injured running out a hit in the first inning.

The Legends still led 6-4 going into the ninth, but three straight errors allowed Kannapolis to get back into the game. Hamme grounded to first baseman Jhonny Medrano, who threw low to pitcher Jorge DeLeon at first. Kenny Gilbert grounded back to DeLeon, who made a low throw to second as he attempted to get a force play, leaving runners at first and second. Eveland hit a grounder to third, and Kvasnicka's throw to first went into right field. Hamme scored to make it 6-5 as Gilbert advanced to third and Eveland went to second. Thompson struck out, but Lee singled to left, scoring Gilbert with the tying run. After Brian Streilein relieved DeLeon, Brady Shoemaker singled to right, but Adam Bailey's throw to the plate cut down Eveland for the second out. Mike Blanke grounded out to end the inning.

The Legends loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't score. In the bottom of the 10th, Nash led off with an infield hit, and was replaced by pinch runner Ben Orloff. Wallace, who has hit safely in 16 of the 17 games in which he has played, doubled to left, putting runners at second and third. Kvasnicka was intentionally walked to load the bases, and with Tyler Burnett batting, a passed ball by the catcher, Blanke, allowed Orloff to score the winning run.

Streilein (1-0) got the win. Jimmy Ballinger (2-1) took the loss. Game two of the five-game series will be played Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
