Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Hickory, NC - Devin Harris had a pretty good week on Monday night in Hickory, driving in five runs and going 4-5 at the plate with two home runs as the Augusta GreenJackets earned a 9-3 win in their series opener with the Hickory Crawdads.
For just the sixth time all year, the GreenJackets took the first lead in the game. Adam Duvall's two-run single in the third inning was the third of three straight two-out hits and it gave the GreenJackets an early 2-0 edge. Augusta added to the lead in the fifth inning when Chris Lofton doubled to lead off the inning and scored on a groundout to push the Augusta lead to three runs.
Hickory struck back in the bottom of the inning, getting a run on an RBI single from Jake Skole. Ryan Scoma threw out a second runner attempting to score on the Skole single to end the inning and preserve a two-run GreenJackets lead. Scoma led off the sixth with a ringing double to right field ahead of Harris's first home run as the GreenJackets stretched their lead back to 5-1.
The Crawdads answered again in the sixth with a two-out, two-run Christian Villanueva double to pull back to within two runs. The Villanueva hit was the third straight in as many pitches against Justin Schumer and it ended the night for the GreenJackets righty. Schumer (2-1) allowed three runs on six hits and three walks in 5.2 innings, striking out three.
Raynor Campbell scored on a wild pitch in the seventh and Harris's second double of the night brought home another run in the inning as the GreenJackets would spend the rest of the night padding their lead. Harris's second home run of the night brought the lead to 9-3 in the ninth.
Nick Tepesch (0-2) took the loss for Hickory, allowing five runs on nine hits and a walk while striking out four.
The second game of the series takes place in around 12 hours as the GreenJackets send Mario Rodriguez (0-0) to the mound to face Justin Grimm in a Tuesday matinee. First pitch will come at 11:05 a.m. in Hickory with the pregame action beginning at 10:50 a.m., airing online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
Single-game and Season Tickets are currently available by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
