Portland bats come alive in win over Thunder

(Trenton, NJ)- Portland CF Bubba Bell had a three-run home run and 5 RBI to lead Portland to a 11-5 victory over Trenton on Wednesday night from Waterfront Park. The 11 runs is tied for the most runs given up in a game by the Thunder pitching staff.

Portland (46-36) took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning off of Thunder starting pitcher Chase Wright (6-2). With a runner on first base and one out, LF Jeff Corsaletti delivered a two-run home run to give the Sea Dogs a 2-0 lead. Trenton (50-34) got a run back in the 2nd inning on an RBI single by 1B Cody Ehlers. Portland made it 3-1 in the 3rd inning on an RBI single by RF Zach Daeges. The Sea Dogs knocked Wright out of the game with a three-run frame in the 4th inning. Bell extended the lead to 5-1 on a two-run double by Bell, and tacked on another run on an RBI single by 2B Tony Granadillo. A five-run 5th inning for the Sea Dogs was highlighted by a three-run home run for Bell. Bell finished the game 2 x 4 with 5 RBI before leaving the game in the 6th inning. Wright gave up 4 H and 5 ER in 3 + innings to take the loss.

The Thunder scored three runs in the 5th inning. CF Austin Jackson had a two-run triple and 3B Chris Malec had an RBI single in the frame. Malec finished the game 3 x 3 with a R, 2 2B, 2 BB and an RBI. Ehlers, RF Edwar Gonzalez and 2B Reegie Corona also had two hits for the Thunder. Portland starting pitcher Kyle Jackson (5-1) went 5 IP and allowed 7 H and 4 ER to pick up the win. It was his second straight victory against the Thunder. The loss was Trenton's second straight when out-hitting the opponent. The Thunder are still 39-7 when out-hitting the opponent this season. Thunder reliever Bo Hall tossed three shutout innings of relief in the loss.

Trenton will look to split the four-game series by winning the final game of the series on Thursday night. RHP Jason Jones (8-3, 2.45) will start for Trenton against RHP Adam Mills (0-0, 0.00), who will be making his Double-A debut for Portland.
