Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Ambiorix Concepcion had two hits and an RBI, but the Binghamton Mets lost to the Altoona Curve 3-1 at Blair County Ballpark Wednesday. The loss is Binghamton's first in three games.
Binghamton (47-37) went ahead in the first, when Daniel Murphy reached on a two-base error and scored on Concepcion's base hit to right off Yoslan Herrera. That unearned run would be all Herrera (5-7) would allow over seven innings.
Altoona (36-47) tied it in the second, thanks to a two-out, solo homer by Luis Cruz off Jonathon Niese. Steve Lerud reached Niese (5-6) for an RBI single in the fourth. Cruz capped off the scoring in the eighth, when he singled in a run against Tim Lavigne.
The B-Mets rallied to put the tying runs on base in the ninth, but Christian Castorri got Mike Nickeas to hit into a game-ending fielder's choice to record his second save in three chances.
Thursday, the Binghamton Mets wrap up a four-game series against the Altoona Curve. Salvador Aguilar (9-1, 2.82) will start for Binghamton against Josh Hill (4-9, 4.71) of Altoona. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Blair County Ballpark with the radio broadcast beginning at 6:50 p.m. on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
Notes: Concepcion is 4 for 8 with four RBIs in the series...the B-Mets had just one hit after the fourth inning...Cruz's homer was the first longball allowed by Niese in nine starts.
