Chesapeake Baysox News Release

The Bowie Baysox, Class AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, in conjunction with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Eastern League, announced the rosters today for the 2008 Northeast Delta Dental Eastern League All-Star Game. The game will be hosted by the Fisher Cats at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium on Wednesday, July 16 at 7:05 p.m.

After an exciting first half in which the Baysox battled for first place in the Southern Division, the team is excited to have four players selected to the Southern Division All-Star team. Starting pitchers Brad Bergesen and Chris Tillman will represent Bowie in New Hampshire, along with left fielder Lou Montanez and third baseman Jeff Nettles.

Bergesen and Tillman have led an extremely talented Baysox rotation this season. Bergesen was promoted to Bowie from Class A Frederick on April 21 and has accumulated 9 wins in his first 13 starts. Overall, Bergesen is 9-2 with a sizzling 2.64 ERA and has walked only 16 batters in 85.1 innings pitched. Bergesen won his first five decisions and his nine victories are the most in the Southern Division.

Chris Tillman has lived up to lofty expectations so far, and has the distinction of being the youngest player named to the All-Star team. One of five players acquired from the Mariners in the Erik Bedard deal, Tillman is also one of the youngest players in the Eastern League. Just 20 years old, Tillman won his first six decisions this season, and is 7-2 with a 3.08 ERA on the season. He has struck out 81 batters in 79.0 innings and has been among the Eastern League leaders in ERA all season. Tillman was the fan's selection for the All-Star team.

Joining the talented young pitchers in New Hampshire is left fielder Lou Montanez. Montanez was the fan's selection for position players and currently leads the Eastern League with 18 homeruns, 106 hits, 43 extra-base hits and 61 runs scored. In addition to leading the league in all those categories, Montanez is second in slugging percentage at .564 and third in RBI with 59.

While Montanez currently leads the league in homeruns, for most of the season teammate Jeff Nettles has had that distinction. Nettles will head to New Hampshire after hitting .271 in 82 games for the Baysox, with 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 51 RBI.

Both rosters consist of 24 players, including at least three players from each of the Eastern League's 12 teams. At least one position player and one pitcher from each team were selected by fans through online and stadium balloting. The remaining selections were made through voting by league media, managers and officials.

The Bowie Baysox are in their 16th season as the "AA" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Baysox individual game tickets, season ticket plans, group outings, picnics and birthday parties are currently available for booking by calling the Baysox front office at (301) 464-4880.
