Pittsburgh Recalls Alex Goligoski

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled defenseman Alex Goligoski from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, it was announced on Tuesday.

Goligoski, 22, has recorded 17 points (6+11) in 43 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season, placing him sixth among American Hockey League rookie defensemen in scoring.. He also represented the Penguins at the 2008 AHL All-Star Game, Presented by Rbk, last month in Binghamton, NY.

The Grand Rapids, MN, native played three seasons at the University of Minnesota, recording 98 points (25+73) in 117 career games with the Golden Gophers. He was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year during his junior season, and also ranked second in the nation in defenseman scoring with 39 points (9+30).

Goligoski was selected in the second round (61st overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton returns to action this Wednesday night, when they will face off with the Norfolk Admirals at the Scope. Game time is 7:15pm.

The Penguins return to Northeast Pennsylvania on Friday night, February 8, when they will host the Portland Pirates on Military Appreciation Night. The first 6,000 fans through the doors will receive a camouflaged Penguins hat, while the team will wear special camouflaged jerseys during the game.
