Albany Devils News Release
Rewind:
Saturday, Falcons 3 vs. DEVILS 2 (OT)
Trailing 2-1 with 1:50 left in regulation, the Springfield Falcons were able to rally to defeat the Lowell Devils in overtime, 3-2. Stephane Goulet tallied the game-tying marker at 18:10 of the third period to send the game into the extra session. There, it was Ben Simon clinching the Falcon win at 2:09. Noah Clarke put the Devils up 1-0 at 7:05 of the first with his 13th goal of the season. Lowell took its second lead of the contest when Barry Tallackson registered his 14th marker of the season 8:53 into the third frame.
Coming Up
Before starting a three-game road stretch, the Devils will host the Worcester Sharks on Wednesday, February 8. The Devils look to take the lead in game five of the ten-game season series as they are 2-2-0-0 versus the Sharks this season. Lowell has taken each of the last two games against Worcester by a score of 4-3. The Sharks are 3-7-0-1 in their last 11 games. Defenseman Derek Joslin is on a four-game assist streak.
The Devils then hit the road on Friday, February 8 to visit the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for game four out of six between the two teams. Lowell has yet to lose in regulation this season to Bridgeport, going 2-0-0-1. Bridgeport comes into this contest having won four of its last five games and seven of its last ten. Goaltender Joey MacDonald has allowed only five goals in his last four starts for a 3-1-0-0 record, while center Ben Walter is on a ten-game point streak (3g, 10a).
Lowell completes its week of play on Saturday, February 9 as a guest of the Springfield Falcons. Including this contest, the two opponents have only two games left in the season series. The Falcons have owned the head-to-head match-up thus far, as the Devils are just 1-4-1-2 against Springfield this year. The last three games have gone past regulation with the Falcons triumphing once in overtime and twice in the shootout. Springfield ended a five-game winless streak (0-2-1-2) with its 3-2 overtime win over Lowell this past Saturday.
In the standings
With their light schedule this week, the Lowell Devils were not able to make any headway in catching up to the sixth-place Worcester Sharks, who they trail by 11 points. For the second week in a row, the Manchester Monarchs could not widen their four-point gap over the Sharks, but still remain only one point back of the Springfield Falcons. The top three teams in the Atlantic Division maintain their cushion over the rest of the pack as third-place Portland Pirates lead the Falcons by 12 points. The Hartford Wolf Pack were able to leapfrog over the Pirates to gain control of second place, but still trail the division-leading Providence Bruins by ten points. !
