Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Fort Wayne received a new member to the bullpen staff when right-hander Greg Burke was sent to the Wizards from the Lake Elsinore Storm of the California League. To make room on the roster, right-hander Manny Ayala was assigned to the San Diego Padres extended spring training camp in Peoria, Arizona.
Burke was signed by San Diego after spending the 2005 season with independent league Atlantic City Surf. He was 1-2 with a 3.70 earned run average in 25 appearances. He opened this year with the Storm, posting a 2-1 record and a 5.79 ERA in 12 relief appearances.
After Thursday's game with Peoria Chiefs (Chicago Cubs affiliate) was rained out, right-hander Josh Geer, who was activated from the disabled list, will get the starting nod for the Wizards in the opener of a four-game series with the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays at 6:00 p.m. tonight.
Ayala appeared in three games for the Wizards, including one start. He was 0-0 with a 7.56 ERA in 8 1/3 innings of work, striking out nine and allowing 13 hits and two walks.
