Two Dragons Get Early Call to Cooperstown
May 12, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release
DAYTON, OH-While Chris Denove and Eric Eymann are still years away from even being eligible for the hallowed halls of Cooperstown, the two Dayton Dragons will visit baseball's most famous city to participate in the exhibition Hall of Fame game.
The Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates will battle in the 60th annual Hall of Fame game at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY on Monday, May 15th, at 2 p.m. The major league stars will start the exhibition game, but the game will be finished with hot prospects from the farm systems on the field.
Denove and Eymann will be with the Dragons for Sunday afternoon's game against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin. The players will then board a plane and fly to Cooperstown to join the Cincinnati Reds for the exhibition game Monday. They will rejoin the Dragons Tuesday for the series opener against the Fort Wayne Wizards at Fifth Third Field.
The game will mark the second time catcher Chris Denove and infielder Eric Eymann have had a brush with major leaguers in 2006. Denove was behind the plate and Eymann started at third base when Cincinnati Reds right-hander Paul Wilson made a rehab start for the Dayton Dragons on April 27th.
Denove and Eymann are two of nine Reds minor leaguers that will join the big league club for the trip. Triple-A Louisville will send pitcher Chris Michalak, outfielder Alex Sanchez, and infielder Jeff Bannon to Cooperstown. Chattanooga's double-A squad will be represented by three former Dragons-pitcher Carlos Guevara, outfielder Chris Dickerson, and infielder Luis Bolivar. High-A Sarasota will send pitcher Abe Woody.
