July 23, 2019 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The first home doubleheader in Pit Spitters club history will go down as an unqualified success, as they down the Kokomo Jackrabbits by a score of 10-0 to record the sweep. After taking the first game of day 7-2, the Pit Spitters plated four runs in the first and ended the night in double figures, extending their latest win streak to six games.
The Pit Spitters were able to take advantage of a pair of infield hits and Jackrabbit command issues to jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Drake Titus (JR Army) and Christian Faust (SO Grand Valley) recorded RBI's in the frame. The lead would stand at 4-0 until the home side erupted for five runs in the fifth inning. In the inning, the club sent ten men to the plate, and reached a climax on the two-run homer off the bat of Adam Proctor (SO Michigan State.) The Pit Spitters made it ten runs scored on the day combined in the fifth innings, after scoring five runs in the frame in both legs of the doubleheader.
Pat Hohlfeld (SO Jefferson) was again dominant on the mound for Traverse City. Building off a quality start in his last outing, he went seven innings Tuesday, shutting out the Jackrabbits and only yielding five hits. He earns the victory and improves to 3-0 on the season.
