July 9, 2021 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release
Traverse City, MI - The Pit Spitters dropped another one run game to the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders, this one a 7-6 final and just the second sweep on the season.
The Dock Spiders broke out for four runs in the bottom of the first on four hits, chasing Jeremy Neff out of the ballgame. But the Pit Spitters would answer and do the same in the top of the second.
Miles SImington and Trey Yunger singled to lead off, followed by a two-RBI double from Camden Traficante. Traficante scored on an RBI single from Zeb Roos. Adam Proctor scored on a wild pitch with two outs to tie the game at four.
Cam Schuelke entered for Neff in the bottom of the second. He allowed a pair of doubles but struck out three as Fond du Lac retook the lead. Scoring would stay stagnant for several innings as Schuelke finished the night with five innings of relief, allowing six hits and one run while striking out six.
Traverse City took their first lead of the game in the seventh when Simington doubled home Tito Flores and Yunger singled home Simington.
O'Kelly McWilliams IV worked out of trouble in the bottom half with two strikeouts, bringing in All-Star John Beuckelaere in the eighth.
After two strikeouts, Beuckelaere hit a batter, allowed a single and walked another to load the bases. With the bases loaded and two outs, Beuckelaere got a ground ball that should have ended the inning, but Christian Faust made a throwing error to extend the inning and allow Fond du Lac to score two runs. Beuckelaere would strike out a third batter to end the inning.
The Dock Spiders capitalized with another one-run victory, picking up another save and the sweep. For the second night in a row, Traverse City put the tying run in scoring position but couldn't bring him in.
