Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, MA – The Springfield Falcons announced today that they have partnered with the USPS and Baystate Health Foundation for a commemorative pink puck project to benefit the Rays of Hope.

Pink Pucks will be sold by the Falcons' wives and girlfriends for $5.00 each at every Falcons home game starting Saturday, November 2nd. Pucks will also be available by phone at 413-739-3344 and on-line at www.falconsahl.com.

"We are thrilled to get this project off the ground," said Carole Appleton, Falcons' Director of Marketing. "Breast cancer is a disease that affects men and women of all nationalities. The Falcons family is very proud to be a part of this."

Rays of Hope is an annual fundraising walk held in Springfield. Funds raised at the community walk support programs and services for women with breast cancer at the Comprehensive Breast Center at Baystate Medical Center, at Franklin Medical Center, at Mary Lane Hospital, as well as throughout western Massachusetts. Ten percent of the proceeds fund breast cancer research at the American Cancer Society.

According to Baystate Medical Center's Comprehensive Breast Cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women in the United States with 1 of 9 developing the disease in their lifetime.

Each year approximately 178,000 new cases will be diagnosed and 43,500 women die from the disease.
