Worcester IceCats News Release

WORCESTER, MA---The Worcester IceCats four-game unbeaten streak was broken Friday night as the Manchester Monarchs scored with just under three minutes to play at Worcester's Centrum Centre. The Monarchs came in as advertised, utilizing the AHL's best power play to score all three goals

Worcester's Blake Evans put the 'Cats on the board with a shorthanded goal at the 11:57 mark of the opening frame. With Chad Starling in the home team's penalty box for a hooking infraction, Evans took a pass from Jeff Panzer for the early lead. Thirty-five seconds later, Manchester's Steve Heinze took advantage of the same penalty and knotted the game at one before Mark Rycroft extended his scoring streak to five games at 5:45 of the second period, giving the 'Cats a 2-1 lead. Rycroft's persistent forecheck led to a turnover behind the Manchester net and he finished off his fourth of the season with a quick wrap-around.

With his helpers on both Worcester goals, Panzer now has points in four of his last five games (1/5/6).

Manchester's Eric Healey went on to score two unanswered goals, his third and fourth of the season, including the game-winner at 17:14 of the final period. Mike Cammalleri assisted on all three Manchester goals.

Phil Osaer was in the Worcester net and turned aside 23 of 26 shots, while Monarchs goaltender Cristobal Huet stopped 29 of 31.

With the 3-2 loss, the 'Cats' record now stands at 3-4-1-0 for seven points in the American Hockey League's North Division. The 'Cats return to Worcester's Centrum Centre on Saturday evening, when they host the Manitoba Moose at 7:05 PM. Worcester will close out its three-in-three stretch with a 4:05 PM. face-off against the St. John's Maple Leafs on Sunday.
