February 24, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release
SAN DIEGO - Caltrans and Verizon Yellow Pages in conjunction with the Mary Kay Ash Foundation will be presenting the Gulls' inaugural "Pink in the Rink" night and jersey auction on Saturday. The night will also feature the ever-popular Gulls long-sleeved T-shirt giveaway (to the first 8,000 fans and also brought to you by Caltrans and Verizon Yellow Pages).
The Gulls will be sporting pink Mary Kay Ash specialty jerseys for the game, which is against the Utah Grizzlies at 7:05 p.m. These jerseys will be auctioned live immediately following the game. All fans are encouraged to take seats behind the player's benches in sections 12, 13, and 14 to participate in the auction.
The Gulls will present each winning bidder with a certificate of purchase, four tickets to the game on Friday, March 3 and complete instructions on how to obtain their signed jersey. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Mary Kay Ash Foundation.
Michael Anstead of Ansteads Auction will be the auctioneer for the night.
About the May Kay Ash Foundation: Since 1997, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation has supported top medical scientists nationwide who are searching for a cure for the cancers that affect women, including breast, cervical, uterine and ovarian. Last year, the Foundation awarded $1 million in research grants to a select group of research scientists.
Since 2000, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation has also awarded thousands of dollars to women's shelters across the country. In 2005, the Foundation distributed $20,000 grants to 150 shelters. To help bring national attention to the problem of domestic violence, Mary Kay Inc. and the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation underwrote a powerful PBS documentary in 2001 called "Breaking the Silence: Journeys of Hope," produced by Connecticut Public Television. The program has aired more than 800 times, reaching 98 million television households in all 50 states.
This is all a part of the Gulls' "King-Sized Week," which features Saturday's big home game against Utah at 7:05 p.m.
