Everblades Shootout Gladiators, 4-3

The Gwinnett Gladiators dropped their seventh shootout of the season losing 4-3 to the Florida Everblades in the shootout at the Germain Arena on Friday night. With the loss, Gwinnett remains winless in the shootout this season. Dan Sisca was the only player to score in the shootout beating Sean Fields in the second round while Gwinnett could not score in five chances in the shootout in the loss. Florida sent the game into overtime when they tied the contest with 41 seconds left in the third period with netimder Phil Osaer pulled in favor of an extra attacker. Kevin Bergin redirected a centering pass from past Reggie Berg past Gladiators netminder Sean Fields for the tally. Steve Saviano also collected an assist on the Everblades tally. The Gladiators jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a 5-on-3 power play goal by Jeff Dwyer. Derek Nesbitt fed Dwyer at the post to set up the tally. Dwyer beat Florida goaltender Phil Osaer with a slapshot through traffic for the goal at 6:29 of the first period. Scott Kelman also had an assist on the marker. Paul Cabana equalized the contest at the 9:09 mark of the opening period as he ripped a centering pass behind Gladiators netminder Sean Fields. Steve Saviano found Cabana open in the slot to pick up an assist on the power play goal. Florida took a 2-1 lead at the 10:05 mark of the first period on a goal by Kevin Bergin. Reggie Berg and Daniel Sisca hooked up to pick up the assists and set up the Florida marker. Gwinnett tied the game up on Brian Teixeira's first goal as a Gladiator, backhanding the puck through a pile up in front of the Florida net and past Osaer to tie the game at two at 10:56 of the second period. Josh Bennett and Cam Brown recorded the assists on the goal as they kept the puck alive in the pile up to set up Teixeira on the tally. Guillaume Desbiens gave the Gladiators a 3-2 lead with his 23rd goal of the season, redirecting a Scott Mifsud centering pass behind Osaer. Desbiens slid out of the penalty box and moved in with Mifsud on a 2-on-1 break, as Matt York also had an assist on the goal with just 1:21 left in the second period. Sean Fields finished with 37saves in the loss while the Gladiators fall to 34-11-7 on the season. Gwinnett scored one of their three goals on the man advantage to break a two game drought without a power play goal.
