San Diego Gulls News Release

PHOENIX - The San Diego Gulls, who are set to take on the Phoenix Roadrunners Friday night, announced the acquisition of defenseman Chris Cava from the Columbia Inferno in exchange for fellow blue-liner Jason Reimers and future considerations. Cava isn't expected to be in the lineup Friday, but could join the Gulls sometime this weekend.

The 25-year-old Cava recorded 17 points (5g, 12a) in 31 games for Columbia this season. He spent the previous three years with the Mississippi Sea Wolves. Cava re-signed with Mississippi last summer, but was forced to sign elsewhere after Hurricane Katrina forced the Sea Wolves to suspend operations in 2005-06.

The 6-foot, 200-pound native of Thunder Bay, Ontario established career highs last season with seven goals, 22 assists and 29 points. He also racked up 214 penalty minutes, tops on Mississippi. Cava has also played in the ECHL with the Toledo Storm and Roanoke Express. In four complete seasons, he has averaged 196 penalty minutes and has participated in postseason action every year since turning pro in 2000-01.

The 25-year-old Reimers has nine points (2g, 7a) and 129 penalty minutes in 42 games with San Diego and Utah this season. He played seven games for the Grizzlies to begin the season before signing with the Gulls on Nov. 21. The 6-foot, 185-pounder from Cottage Grove, Minn. spent last season with the United Hockey League's Motor City Mechanics after beginning his pro career in 2003-04 with the Central Hockey League's Fort Worth Brahmas.

San Diego and Phoenix meet Friday night at 6:11 p.m. (PST), but the game will begin airing on KLSD 1360AM at 7 p.m. (PST). The Gulls are back home Saturday against Utah at 7:05 p.m. It will be the inaugural "Pink in the Rink" night, benefiting the Mary Kay Ash Foundation. Caltrans and Verizon Yellow Pages are presenting the night, which also features the ever-popular long-sleeved T-shirt giveaway for the first 8,000 fans. The Gulls will also be sporting special pink Mary Kay Ash jerseys for the game, which will be auctioned LIVE immediately afterwards. San Diego ends its busy week Sunday in Stockton.

All games can be heard on KLSD 1360AM and www.sandiegogulls.com with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. Most games can also be viewed on the Gulls' web site, courtesy of B2 Networks.
