Phillip Ervin Named International League Batter of the Week
June 3, 2019 - International League (IL1)
Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville Bats outfielder Phillip Ervin has been named the International League's Batter of the Week for May 27-June 2. In 7 games, Ervin batted .423 (11-for-26) with 10 runs, 2 doubles, 5 home runs and 10 RBI, with a .516 on-base percentage and 1.593 OPS.
The former first round pick has split time between Class AAA Louisville and the Cincinnati Reds in 2019, currently in his fourth stint of the season with Louisville after being optioned on May 24. Ervin hit 2 home runs in back-to-back games on May 29-30 at Durham, becoming the first Louisville Bat with consecutive multi-homer games since Mike Hessman on April 4-5, 2013.
Ervin's multi-homer games also provided some historical distinction, with his first of the week tying Louisville's franchise record for most individual multi-homer games in a season (11), and his second breaking a tie with the 1999 Louisville RiverBats.
Ervin is the first Bats player to win IL Batter of the Week since infielder Juan Perez won it for April 17-23, 2017. He's the first Bats outfielder to win it since Beau Amaral for August 8-14, 2016.
