International League Players of the Week Named
Published on June 3, 2019 under International League (IL1) News Release
The International League announced today that Louisville outfielder Phillip Ervin and Pawtucket left- handed starter Kyle Hart have been named the League's Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period covering May 27-June 2. Both players are the first members of their respective teams to claim an IL weekly award this season.
PHILLIP ERVIN, Louisville Bats IL BATTER OF THE WEEK Louisville's Phillip Ervin hit .423 over the past week and led the International League with five home runs, ten runs scored, 28 total bases and a 1.077 slugging percentage. After going deep just once in his first 27 games for the Bats this season, Ervin crushed two home runs in back-to-back games against Durham on Wednesday and Thursday. He added another long ball on Sunday plus a double, giving him a multi-hit game for the fourth time last week. Since returning from his latest stint with the Reds on May 27, Ervin improved his batting average for the season at this level from .228 to .271.
26-year-old Phillip Ervin is in his seventh season playing professionally. The former first-round draft pick has split time between the Triple-A and Major League levels since 2017. Ervin is a native of Mobile, Alabama.
KYLE HART, Pawtucket Red Sox IL PITCHER OF THE WEEK In his first career appearance above the Double-A level, Red Sox prospect Kyle Hart delivered the International League's first complete game shutout of the 2019 season by blanking Lehigh Valley 4-0. The left-hander hurled 9.0 scoreless frames while scattering five hits and striking out eight without allowing a walk. The dazzling debut was Hart's first career complete game as a pro. It also marked the first 9.0-inning complete game shutout in all of Triple-A Baseball this season and the first for the PawSox in nearly two years (Shawn Haviland, June of 2017).
26-year-old Kyle Hart is in his fourth season pitching professionally. He was selected by Boston in the 19th round of the 2016 draft. Last year he earned an All-Star nod in the Double-A Eastern League. Hart is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio.
