Lexington Legends News Release

Brian Pellegrini tied the Lexington Legends' single-season home run record as the Legends beat the Asheville Tourists 3-1 in the opener of a three-game series in Asheville.

Each team scored a run in the fourth inning. Lexington's Albert Cartwright led off the top of the fourth with a double, moved to third on a single by Michael Diaz and scored when Chris Jackson hit into a double play. Asheville tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Consecutive singles by Michael Zuanich, David Christensen and Thomas Field loaded the bases, and Zuanich scored as Tyler Massey grounded into a double play.

Pellegrini's blast over the center field wall in the sixth put Lexington in front for good. It was his 25th home run of the year, matching the mark set by Beau Hearod in 2004 and tied by Hunter Pence in 2005.

The Legends added a run in the eighth on a controversial play. After a walk to Eric Suttle, Jeff Hulett and Brian Pellegrini were hit by pitches to load the bases. Albert Cartwright hit a line drive to right center field, where David Christensen made a diving catch. The ball came out of his glove, but it was ruled that he had held the ball long enough for a catch. Christensen then threw to second to double up Jeff Hulett, but the run scored by Suttle was counted. Lexington manager Tom Lawless was ejected following the play, which was still being sorted out by officials after the game..

Lexington starter Robert Bono (9-8) got the win. Asheville reliever Kurt Yacko (2-2) took the loss.

The two teams will meet again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
