Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - The Intimidators again failed to come any closer to the second half title, as West Virginia took a one-sided 7-3 victory over Kannapolis on Tuesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.
The loss was the third in a row for the Intimidators and the second in which they were held to just five hits. Kannapolis netted only two knocks over the first seven innings, during which time the Power took a 7-0 lead.
James Albury (5-1) took his first loss of the season, giving up a season-worst five earned runs in three innings on the mound. Four of the runs cam in the third inning, as West Virginia used RBI hits from Kyle Morgan, Quincy Latimore and Adenson Churio to blow the game open early.
Tony Sanchez added a two-out, two-run homer off of Daniel Albritton in the sixth, when he drove a 0-2 pitch over the left-centerfield wall.
Kannapolis did rally late with three unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth off of Ryan Kelly. Jon Gilmore's two-out double not only drove in two, but also extended his hitting streak to 18 games.
Brain Leach (7-3) did a majority of the work in his start for the Power. The right-hander surrendered just two hits over 6 1/3 innings, walking one and striking out five. Three West Virginia pitchers combined to fan 11 Kannapolis hitters.
