
Beckham Named South Atlantic League All-Star

(Bowling Green, KY) - The Bowling Green Hot Rods and the South Atlantic League announced that Hot Rods shortstop Tim Beckham has been named a South Atlantic League post season All-Star. The 19-year-old shortstop, drafted with the No. 1 pick by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2008, earned the distinction after voting by league managers, coaches, broadcasters, and media.
Playing in his first full season, Beckham is leading the Hot Rods in numerous offensive categories heading into the month of September. He is also among the league leaders in a variety of offensive categories while ranking among the most productive offensive shortstops in all of Minor League Baseball.
Beckham leads the Hot Rods with 129 hits, putting together two hitting streaks of ten games or longer, including a 13-game streak that carried him to the end of August. His 62 RBI are the most among Bowling Green position players, nine more than his closest teammate. He has also scored runs at a prolific pace, ranking second on the team by crossing home plate 56 times.
Among South Atlantic League players, Beckham is fourth in doubles and ninth in total hits. He leads all league shortstops in hits, doubles, RBI, and total bases (185). Among shortstops in Low Class A, he is the leader in doubles and third in base hits. His 33 doubles are the third most among shortstops in all levels of Minor League Baseball.
The Griffin, GA, native is currently hitting .279 with five home runs and 62 RBI.
The Hot Rods return home to play their final series of the season on Friday night against the Lexington Legends (Houston Astros). First pitch is at 7:05 PM.
