BlueClaws Clinch 2009 Attendance Title

Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - With 7,710 fans attending Monday night's game, the BlueClaws have clinched the 2009 South Atlantic League attendance title. They have led the SAL in attendance in each of their first nine years of existence.

Second place Greensboro has finished their home schedule with 406,549 fans, and with two home games remaining, the BlueClaws have drawn 415,000 to FirstEnergy Park this year.

"To do this for a ninth straight year is a great accomplishment, but it's all because of our great fans," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "We try to put on a program of affordable family entertainment and we're thrilled that our fans have responded so well."

The club has continually offered a family outing at an affordable price, one that this year was rated more affordable than the average Minor League Baseball game.

Further, for the first time, the BlueClaws have allowed all kids to eat for free at every 2009 home game. So far, 74,389 area children have taken advantage of the program, which will run through the playoffs.

"Ultimately, our base is families," said Brown. "We thought Kids Eat Free was the perfect medication in a tough economy, and it's worked out great."

The BlueClaws began play in 2001, and have led the league in average or overall attendance each season.

Last week, the team went over the 4-million fan mark, becoming the fastest team in New Jersey and South Atlantic League history to reach that plateau.

The team will open the post-season on September 11th at FirstEnergy Park. Tickets are now on sale, at 732-901-7000, at the BlueClaws Box Office, or at BlueClaws.com.
