Payne hurting, lands on DL

Fort Wayne, IN - Outfielder Danny Payne was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Sunday, and infielder Zachary Brown was promoted from the San Diego Padres extended spring training camp and will join the Wizards today.

Brown and the Wizards open a three-game series with the Kane County Cougars at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, Illinois at 7:00 p.m. today.

Payne joined the Wizards on April 18 and is hitting .333 with four doubles, one run batted in and four runs scored in eight games.

Brown was selected by the Padres in the 27th round of the 2007 Major League Baseball draft out of The Citadel. He was a first-team All-Southern Conference pick, leading The Citadel with 69 runs scored, 21 doubles and 38 walks. Brown was second on the Bulldogs with a .353 average, 13 home runs, 148 total bases and a .622 slugging percentage.

Brown split time between the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League and the Arizona-League Padres, hitting .225 with nine doubles, three home runs and 29 runs batted in.

Fort Wayne returns to Memorial Stadium for a six-game homestand starting at 6:00 PM on Friday, May 2, when it will play host to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim affiliate).

The homestand for the Wizards will consist of several promotions, including the post-game Christian Speaker. Super Bowl champion and Indianapolis Colts punter Hunter Smith will give a Christian testimonial and perform with his band Connersvine on Sunday, May 4.

Monday, May 5 at 6:00 PM is the second Dollar Night of the season with $1.00 hot dogs, soft drinks and beer as the Wizards celebrate Cinco De Mayo with College Night. College students can pre-order tickets for $5.00 at the Wizards front offices by showing a valid college ID card.
