Moore, Navarro homer in Kernels 5-3 win over Burlington

April 28, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels got back into the win column on Monday night at Community Field in Burlington with a 5-3 win over the Bees. Efren Navarro hit a solo home run in the sixth inning and Jeremy Moore hit a three run homer in the top of the seventh as the Kernels outhit the Bees, 9-5.

Kernels starter Michael Anton (3-1) allowed three runs on five hits, walked one and struck out three over 7.2 innings to get the win. Ysmael Carmona pitched 1.1 perfect innings and struck out three to earn his first save as a Kernel.

Anton's start was the longest outing for a Kernel starting pitcher so far this year. Burlington starter Ed Cegarra (1-1) surrendered two runs on four hits and struck out eight over six innings in taking the loss.

Ivan Contreras went 2 for 4 with a run scored and Jerry Gonzalez was 1 for 4, also with a run scored.

The Kernels and Bees play game two of their three games series on Tuesday night at Community Field in Burlington. Game time is 6:30 pm. John Rodgers brings you all the action on the internet at www.kernels.com , or in eastern Iowa on 1450 KMRY AM.
