P-Bruins Fall to IceCaps 5-4

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins fell to the St. John's IceCaps 5-4 Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. Andrew Cherniwchan and Jared Knight each had a goal, while Craig Cunningham scored a pair of goals. Niklas Svedberg made 27 saves in net.

In the opening period St. John's struck first when Carl Klingberg scored his 12th goal of the season. Adam Lowry and J.C. Lipon earned the assists at the 3:36 mark. At the 19:01 mark, Jerome Samson managed to find a loose puck in front of Svedberg and scored his 12th goal of the season. Andrew Gordon and Kyle MacKinnon had the assists on the goal as the IceCaps took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

In the second period, at the 2:26 mark, Austen Brassard picked up a loose puck and slipped it past Svedberg for his second goal of season. Teammates John Albert and Blair Riley recorded the assists. Only 17 seconds later at the 2:43 mark, Klingberg score an unassisted goal, his second of the night and 13th of the season to make it 4-0. The P-Bruins got on the board at the 12:31 mark, when Cunningham scored his 16th goal of the season off a wrist shot. Nick Johnson and Justin Florek picked up the helpers. The P-Bruins scored again at 13:56 mark when Cherniwchan's shot sailed past IceCaps goaltender Michael Hutchinson. It was Cherniwchan's second goal this season with Ben Youds and Mike Moore getting the assists. The P-Bruins trailed the IceCaps 4-2 going into the second intermission.

In the third period, the P-Bruins would answer the deficit once again when Cherniwchan took a hard wrist shot that Knight deflected into the net for his fourth goal of the season at the 3:54 mark. However, the IceCaps extended their lead on the power play when Samson scored his second of the night and 13th of the season at the 10:02 mark. Kael Mouillierat and Will O'Neill had the assists. The P-Bruins scored with .3 seconds left in regulation when Cunningham got his second of the night and 17th of the season, while Youds and David Warsofsky had the assists. However it was not enough as St. John's went onto the 5-4 victory.

Svedberg stopped 27 of 32 shots for the P-Bruins, while Hutchinson made 32 saves for the IceCaps. The P-Bruins went 0-for-1 on the power play and 3-for-4 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins head to Worcester Saturday to take on the Sharks at 7:00pm before returning to the Dunkin' Donuts Center on Sunday at 3:05pm against the Ice Caps.
