Pirates Host Sound Tigers to End Home Stand
January 24, 2014 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Lewiston, ME - The Pirates will wrap up their 4 game home stand tonight as they host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at the Androscoggin Bank Colis̮̩e. Puck drops at 7 pm for Bridgeport's final visit to Maine this season.
The Pirates are coming off a 6-3 defeat at the hands of the Worcester Sharks on Tuesday. Brandon Yip, Brandon Gormley, and Lucas Lessio scored for the Pirates in the loss. Louis Domingue saw the most shots in his AHL career with 47, and his 41 saves was the second most in his career. Dan DaSilva scored a hat trick for the Sharks. Despite the loss, Lessio had a 3 point night and has now tallied 10 points in 9 games in 2014.
The Sound Tigers last played on Sunday, defeating their in-state rival Hartford 5-1. Both teams racked up 34 penalty minutes in a rough contest. Mike Halmo, John Persson, Mike Cornell, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, and Chris Langkow scored for the Sound Tigers, with Halmo and Persson's goals coming on the power play. Parker Milner made 31 saves for Bridgeport to pick up the win.
The Pirates will look to improve on their 7-1 record against the Sound Tigers over the last two seasons, including their 2-0 record this season. Their last contest was a memorable one, as Louis Domingue picked up his first AHL shutout on Saturday, January 11th. Domingue stopped all 31 shots he faced while Brett Hextall and Andy Miele supplied the offense to give the Pirates their first shutout win of the season.
KeyBank Key to the Game
You Get What You Give: The Sound Tigers are a physical team known for dropping the gloves and taking penalties. The Pirates' checking line must stand tall when they go up against Bridgeport's grinders, and the power play units must capitalize on their opportunities for the Pirates to break their losing streak.
Good Shepherd Food Bank will be at tonight's game collecting donations - bring a canned or nonperishable food item and you'll receive tickets to an upcoming Pirates game! Also, don't forget to bring your skates for the second L.L. Bean community skate following the game - if you don't have sakes, they can be rented from the Colisee pro shop for $3.
Tonight's game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County.
