Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--In front of the largest indoor crowd in the AHL this season (16,860), the Admirals beat the Rockford Ice Hogs 3-2 Friday night at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Three straight goals by three different Admirals were enough to pull off the victory in the first of three consecutive games against the Ice Hogs.
The Ice Hogs struck first with only 29 seconds remaining in the first period. Garret Ross got the puck at the left point and then made a pass cross-ice to Brandon Mashinter at the right slot. Mashinter made a behind the back pass across the crease to Mark McNeil who had an easy tap-in to make the score 1-0.
The Admirals got on the board when Colton Sissons picked off a pass at the point while the Hogs were on the penalty kill and was sprung on a breakaway, before he wristed one top right past Kent Simpson to tie the game at one only 2:11 into the second period.
This was Sissons team leading 16th goal this season and his second shorthander.
Austin Watson gave the Admirals a 2-1 lead 4:34 into the third period. The goal came when Antony Bitetto made a pass to Watson at the right point. Watson fired a slapper that Simpson stopped but the puck deflected off of Hogs defenseman Zach Miskovic and into the net.
Milwaukee went up 3-1 later in the third after a bad turnover by the Ice Hogs in their defensive zone. Mathieu Tousignant got the puck at the left point, drove it towards net and found Mark Van Guilder, who beat Simpson with a wrister at the 9:17 mark of the third.
The Ice Hogs were able to make it a one-goal game with just 5:01 left in the game. The goal came short-handed when Brandon Pirri received a pass from Jeremy Morin in the slot. Pirri got the puck, turned around and while falling to the ice wristed one top left past Marek Mazanec to make it 3-2.
However, that's as close as Rockford would get, as the Ads clamped down the rest of the way.
Mazanec stopped 28 of 30 shots in the game to run his record to 9-1-1 on the season. He has allowed exactly two goals in eight of his nine starts.
The Admirals are on the road in Rockford tomorrow night and are back on the ice at the Bradley Center Sunday evening at 5:00 pm against the Ice Hogs for the final game of a three game series.
