BINGHAMTON, NY - The Albany Devils began their third straight three-in-three weekend with a 5-2 setback against the Binghamton Senators Friday at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena. Albany moves to 23-12-3-3, while Binghamton improves to 26-12-0-3.
Stefan Matteau opened the scoring just 1:09 into the game. Mattias Tedenby forced a turnover deep inside the Binghamton end and Demkov swung the puck to Matteau, who was alone in front for his seventh goal of the season.
From there, the Senators took control. Matt Puempel registered a power-play goal at 15:27 of the first period and Derek Grant followed with a shorthanded tally at 1:25 of the second period.
Corey Cowick made it 3-1 at 14:57 and Shane Prince added to the lead at 16:56.
In the third, Grant registered his second of the night at 1:26.
The Devils showed some life in the closing minutes. Scott Timmins redirected an Alexander Urbom shot with 2:34 remaining for his 10th goal of the year. Reid Boucher was credited with the second assist.
Keith Kinkaid was busy in the Albany net. He faced 40 shots, turning aside 35. At the other end, Andrew Hammond made 27 saves on 29 shots for his 12th win of the season.
The Devils return to Times Union Center Saturday for a 2 pm rivalry game against the Adirondack Phantoms. As part of "Times Union Family Day" Times Union readers will receive $5 or $10 tickets at the box office. Additionally, the first 1,500 fans will receive a Joe Whitney bobblehead. Marvel's Iron Man will also be making a special appearance at the game.
