
P-Bruins Defeat Sharks 5-3

Worcester, MA - The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 5-3 Saturday evening at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Craig Weller and two goals each from Trent Whitfield and Mikko Lehtonen. The P-Bruins return home to the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 2:05 p.m. for Jumbo Card Night against the Sharks.
The P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 7:19 mark of the opening period, while on a 5-on-3 power play. Jamie Arniel won the face off and passed the puck off to Brad Marchand. He put a shot on net and the rebound went to Whitfield, who tallied his 12th goal of the season. Providence led 1-0 going into the first intermission.
The Sharks tied the game at one at the 1:21 mark of the second period, while on the power play. Benn Ferriero netted his 15th goal of the season, while Danny Groulx and Steven Zalewski picked up the assists. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 9:08 mark. The Sharks turned the puck over in their own end and Weller picked it up and scored from the right face-off circle, his second goal of the season. Worcester tied the game at two at the 17:37 mark. T.J. Trevelyan scored his tenth goal of the season, with Brandon Mashinter recording the lone assist. The Sharks took their first lead of the game at the 18:46 mark. Zalewski tallied his 18th goal of the season, with Jamie McGinn getting the lone assist. Worcester led 3-2 going into the second intermission.
Providence tied the game at three with a power play goal at the 6:05 mark of the third period. Andy Wozniewski had the puck at the left point and sent it to Jeff Penner at the right point. He passed it to Lehtonen in the left face-off circle, where he scored his 15th goal of the season. The P-Bruins retook the lead at the 12:45 mark. Marchand fed Whitfield in front of the net, who tallied his second goal of the game and 13th of the season. Providence finished off the scoring with an empty net goal at the 18:51 mark. Lehtonen netted his second goal of the game and 16th of the season, while Weller got the lone assist. The P-Bruins went onto the 5-3 victory.
Dany Sabourin stopped 29 of 32 shots for the P-Bruins, while Alex Stalock made 22 saves for the Sharks. The P-Bruins were 2-for-9 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
