February 6, 2010 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany River Rats News Release
ALBANY, NY-The Albany River Rats announced today that the club has recalled forward Milan Gajic from the Florida Everblades and goaltender Mike Morrison from the Utah Grizzlies, both of the ECHL. Albany also announced that goalie Tyler Sims has been released from his professional Tryout Contract.
Gajic, 28, attended River Rats training camp in September and played in both of Albany's pre-season games before being loaned to the ECHL's Florida Everblades at the start of the season. Atlanta's fourth round pick (112th overall) in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft has 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 16 games this year with Florida. Gajic (6'0", 180 lbs.) is in his fifth professional campaign after enjoying a four year career at the University of Michagan. The Burnaby, BC., native made his AHL debut with the Providence Bruins in the 2005-06 season, and has also played for Manitoba and Houston. Gajic has 20 points (9-11-20) in his 50 game AHL career.
This marks the third AHL call-up of the season for Morrison, 30, who saw his only AHL action this season in his River Rats debut on January 30th in Hershey. The Medford, MA, native shows a 9-10-3 record with a 2.89 GAA and an.899 save percentage through 22 games this season with Florida. Morrison (6'3", 202 lbs.) split last season between the Austrian Hockey League's Ljubljana Olimpija HK (24 games) and the Swedish Elite League's Modo Hockey Ornskoldsvik.(13 games). Originally selected in the seventh round (186th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Edmonton Oilers, Morrison turned pro in 2002 after completing a four-year collegiate career at the University of Maine. He has appeared in 29 National Hockey League contests with Ottawa, Phoenix and Edmonton, compiling an 11-7-3 record with a 4.14 goals against average and an.850 save percentage.
Sims, 24, joined the River Rats on Friday after posting a 2.47 GAA with a 0.908 save percentage in six games with the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. The West Berlin, Germany, native is in his third professional season. Sims (6'0", 190 lbs.) had a four year NCAA career at Providence College from 2004-08.
The River Rats return home to the Times Union Center tonight for a 5:00 p.m. match-up against the Atlantic Division's Springfield Falcons, followed by the team's Fourth Annual Ronald McDonald House Charity Jersey Auction.
