Crunch Cruise Past Phantoms

Syracuse Crunch News Release

Syracuse, NY - It took nearly 43 minutes, but once the Syracuse Crunch offense got warmed up it stayed hot, adding four more tallies over the game's final 17 minutes en route to a 5-0 shutout win over the Adirondack Phantoms tonight in front of a sold out crowd of 6,149 fans at the War Memorial at Oncenter.

Jared Aulin and Jonathan Sigalet both scored twice, Alexandre Picard added his eleventh marker of the season and Kevin Lalande stopped all 22 shots he faced as the Crunch scored all five of their tallies in the third, a season-high for goals in a single period.

Syracuse extended its season-long win streak to six games and is now tied with Adirondack for fourth place and two points behind Norfolk for third place in the East Division.

The Crunch controlled the majority of the action in the opening 20 minutes, throwing eight shots on goal while holding Adirondack to just three, tying a season-low for shots allowed in a single period.

The Crunch killed off two hooking penalties by Mike Radja and Brendan Bell, including a one-minute, thirteen second 5-on-3 to keep the Adirondack power play in check.

The parade to the penalty box continued for the Crunch in the second period, with two infractions by Tomas Kana and one each from Brendan Bell and Kevin Harvey.

Once again, the Syracuse penalty killers came up huge, denying all four Adirondack man-advantage opportunities. The Phantoms outshot the Crunch by a 16-6 margin in the middle stanza.

The Crunch finally broke through on the score sheet on their third power play of the game when former Syracuse right wing Stefan Legein was whistled off for tripping 1:16 into the third period.

One minute and 14 seconds later, Picard used his 206-pound frame to shield the puck and center a feed from behind the net to Aulin, who tucked it past John Grahame for the 1-0 Crunch lead.

Less than one minute later, Sigalet streaked in down the left side and beat Grahame with a wrister inside the right post to make it 2-0.

Sigalet struck again just under five minutes later for the Crunch's second man-advantage marker of the contest when the rebound of Derek MacKenzie's shot popped out to him in the slot and buried it top shelf past Grahame for the 3-0 advantage.

Aulin took over the team lead in goals when he added his second of the game and 14th of the season at the 16:11 mark. Picard closed out the scoring exactly two minutes later.

Lalande earned his first shutout of the year and picked up his sixth straight win in his sixth straight start.
