Peoria Rivermen News Release

CEDAR PARK, TX - The Peoria Rivermen had more shots on goal in the third period alone than the Texas Stars did in three periods combined but it was Texas who handed Peoria a 5-0 loss at Cedar Park Center on Saturday night. Peoria outshot the Stars 41-15, including 19-6 in the third, but Matt Climie stopped them all in his third shutout of the year.

Just one night after the Rivermen chased Climie from the goal in the first period, the second-year pro baffled Rivermen shooters all night long. It was Peoria that made a goaltending change, replacing Hannu Toivonen with Ben Bishop after the second frame.

Texas jumped out in front just 55 seconds after the opening faceoff on a goal from Matt Beaudoin. His 12th of the season was the first of three points on the night and stood up as the only goal of the first period. Peoria limited the Stars to just three shots on goal while Climie racked up 11 first-period saves.

The Stars put the game out of reach in the second period. They scored three times on six shots and ended the night early for Toivonen. Travis Morin chipped home a bouncing puck at 5:04 before Sergei Korostin redirected one in at 9:44. Matheiu Tousignant's second of the season at 16:40 gave the Stars a 4-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

Toivonen allowed four goals on nine shots in taking the loss. Bishop finished with five saves in the third with his only blemish courtesy of a Raymond Sawada breakaway at 10:37.

The loss was the third shutout of the season against the Rivermen and first since a 1-0 loss at the hands of the Houston Aeros on Nov. 18. It also marked the first time Peoria allowed five or more goals in regulation since Nov. 25, a 6-2 loss to Abbotsford.

The Rivermen finished their Texas swing 1-2-0 and will conclude their road trip on Tuesday in Chicago at 7 p.m. All games can be heard on Hippie 101.1FM or online through http://www.rivermen.net/fanzone/live/.
