Bridgeport Islanders News Release
By Pat Luongo - Darien High School 4/8/06
On Saturday April 8th, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers professional hockey team had a busy night. 7,679 people came to Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard for two things: an exhilarating game between the Sound Tigers and their archrivals, the Hartford Wolf Pack, and a game-worn jersey auction.
The Sound Tigers were able to hang on for a 2-1 win over Hartford on the strength of goals from Joe Tallari and Peter Tsimikalis, as well as an outstanding goaltending performance by Wade Dubielewicz. The other attraction was the Sound Tigers annual jersey auction, which consisted of game-worn jerseys from the 2005-2006 Sound Tigers. Some players on the team that had their jerseys auctioned off included: Robert Nilsson, Sean Bergenheim, Wade Dubielewicz, Ryan O'Marra and Jeremy Colliton. Proceeds from the auction went to the New York Islanders Children's Foundation.
"I'm very glad to see that the money is being raised for a good cause," said Sound Tigers leading scorer Rob Collins, whose jersey auctioned off for $375.
Sound Tigers management was also happy with how the auction turned out. "There was a great atmosphere around the auction. The resulting proceeds to the Islanders Children's Foundation, totaling over $17,000, is a tribute to our fans and their support of the Sound Tigers." said Shane Beardsley, Sound Tigers community relations manager.
Saturday's win propelled the Sound Tigers to within a game of clinching a berth in the American Hockey League's Calder Cup Playoffs. Any combination of two points gained by them and / or lost by the Binghamton Senators, who will play the first of four games in five nights this Wednesday when they visit the Norfolk Admirals, will put the Sound Tigers into the postseason.
The Sound Tigers will finish the 2005-06 regular season with a pair of road games against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this Friday, April 14th at 7:05 p.m. and in Hartford against the Wolf Pack this Saturday, April 15th at 7 p.m.
Sound Tigers playoff tickets cost as little as $11 for children and $16 for adults and can be purchased over the phone by calling 203-368-1000, on-line at ticketmaster.com or in-person at Bridgeport's Arena at Harbor Yard box office. Sound Tigers Playoff Gift Packs-- featuring four tickets, an autographed puck and four SportsCenter of CT activity passes --are also on sale for as little as $69. Information on all Sound Tigers ticket packages is available by calling 203-334-GOAL or emailing info@soundtigers.com.
