A franchise record tying second period led the Barons to a 6-5 win over the AHL's best team on Wednesday night. The Griffins dominated the opening period, scoring twice and out-shooting the Barons 12-6. Kyle Quincey opened the scoring with his sixth of the season on a slap shot past Barons goaltender Dimitri Patzold. Another Griffins defenseman, Brett Lebda, also scored as he tacked on his fourth of the year. An explosion of offense saw the two teams combine for eight goals in the second period, including six by the Barons, who skated to a 6-4 lead through forty minutes of play. Mike Iggulden began the onslaught with his 21st of the year while the Barons skated on a five-on-three power play. The Griffins answered to re-establish their two-goal lead with Clay Wilson's short-handed strike at the 5:09 mark. That opened up a sequence of three goals in 67-seconds as Tomas Plihal scored on the power play, followed by Tim Conboy's even strength goal. Plihal scored shorthanded to give the Barons their first lead of the night. The Griffins once again tied the game when Eric Manlow pushed a loose puck under the pads of Patzold. Less than a minute later, Darryl Bootland was kicked out of the game and issued a five minute major for spearing. The Barons took advantage, earning power play markers from Matt Carkner and Tom Cavanagh for a 6-4 lead.
