Cleveland Barons News Release
CLEVELAND - San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson announced that the club has recalled forwards Ryane Clowe and Tomas Plihal from the Cleveland Barons.
Clowe has split the season between San Jose and Cleveland, earning 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in 35 games with the Barons this season. Clowe began the season with the Sharks, but has bounced back and forth since then, recording two assists and nine penalty minutes in 17 total NHL games this season.
Last season the native of St. John's Newfoundland registered the second most prolific season in Barons history, leading the Barons in goals (27), assists (35), points (62) and plus/minus (+19). He was honored for his efforts as the team's most valuable player.
The 6-foot-two, 215-pound Clowe appeared in 72 games in his rookie campaign with the Barons in 2003-04. That season he totaled 11 goals and 29 assists (11-29-40) with 97 penalty minutes.
Clowe was selected by San Jose in the sixth round (175th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Plihal has earned 30 points (11-19-30) in 74 games with the Barons this season. He leaves Cleveland with a three-game goal streak intact and has earned eight points (7-1-8) in his last seven games. This marks the first trip to the NHL for the third-year professional.
Last season he earned 28 points (17-11-28) in 62 games played, finishing the season with goals in back-to back games (2-1-3). During his rookie season in 2003-04, Plihal earned four goals and 12 assists for 16 points in 51 games.
The six-foot-one, 195-pound native of Frydlant, Czech Republic was originally selected by San Jose in the 5th round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft (140th overall).
The Barons will finish out the regular season with three games in Canada this week. Wednesday they take on the Hamilton Bulldogs, then play back to back games against the Manitoba Moose on Thursday and Saturday.
