Oklahoma City Barons News Release
Linus Omark fired home four goals including one on a second-period penalty shot as the Oklahoma City Barons beat the San Antonio Rampage 5-4 on Friday at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The Barons, 4-4-0-1, face the Rampage again on Saturday at 7 pm (CDT) as the teams meet 12 times season and seven times in the current 14-game span for Oklahoma City.
Omark's hat trick was the 11th in club history and first this season. It was the fourth time a Baron has tallied more than three goals in a game and Omark had one of those, a five-goal performance against the Toronto Marlies on Nov. 7, 2010. Jordan Eberle and Colin McDonald have had Oklahoma City's other four-goal games and they also came at the expense of the San Antonio Rampage.
Oklahoma City out-shot San Antonio 39-33 as Richard Bachman improved to 3-4-1. The Rampage (2-5-0-0) have dropped three straight.
Omark's successful penalty shot was the second among eight tries in club history. It gave the Barons a 4-2 lead with 2:42 remaining in the second period and marked the second straight game where a Rampage opponent had scored on a penalty shot. Texas' Travis Morin lit the lamp on Saturday against the Rampage's Scott Clemmensen in a 6-0 Stars win. Dov Grumet-Morris (0-4-0) tended goal for San Antonio on Friday, making 34 saves as each team set its season high for goal production.
San Antonio opened the scoring 66 seconds into the game, as Bobby Butler swooped down low and put a backhander from close range past Richard Bachman.
The Barons, who had scored just two first-period goals in their first eight games, added two more on Friday to take a 2-1 lead at the first intermission. Linus Omark, who tallied twice in the opening period on Oct 18 against Abbotsford, had the honor again in San Antonio. Omark's first goal at3:53, a glove-side wrister from the mid-slot was set up by Anton Lander and Matthew Ford.
Omark scored again on a two-man advantage at 16:15, again glove side but from a steeper angle, assisted by Philip Larsen and Derek Nesbitt.
Vincent Trochek tied the score 2-2 at 6:10 of the second, but Matthew Ford tipped a Philip Larsen point shot at 14:07 on a power play to make it 3-2. Omark's penalty shot concluded the second-period scoring.
The Barons grabbed a 5-2 lead at 7:25 of the third on Omark's fourth, a one-timer on the power play from the right circle. Oklahoma City was 3-for-8 on the power play.
San Antonio rallied to make it a one-goal game on goals by Quinton Howden (12:55) and Greg Rallo (16:54).
