Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons (5-0-0-1) suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Providence Bruins, who defeated the team by the final score of 4-3 in a shootout. The Falcons did earn a point and moved into a three-way tie with Hartford and Albany for the top spot in the Northeast Division.

It took six rounds in the shootout to decide a winner, as Ryan Spooner and David Warsofsky notched conversions for the Bruins. Jonathan Marchessault was the only Falcon to score in the shootout.

The Falcons held two separate third-period leads but could not hold either. Justin Florek - at 15:56 - and Nick Johnson - at 18:27 - scored the equalizers for Providence, forcing overtime. Johnson scored twice in the contest, giving him five on the season.

Falcons forward Sean Collins scored twice - his first two tallies of the season - and assisted on the only other Springfield goal. Frederic St. Denis got credit for the other score, firing a slap shot from the point past Providence netminder Niklas Svedberg.

Springfield goaltender Jeremy Smith (3-0-1) made 32 saves on 35 shots through regulation and overtime. Svedberg (3-0-2) stopped 36 of 39 shots faced in net for Providence.
