Omaha Storm Chasers July 19th Game Notes

July 19, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAST NIGHT'S LOSS: The Chasers drop to 1.5 games back of division-leading Iowa as their comeback attempt fell shorts (have not won games one or two of any of the three series with New Orleans this season). Johnny Giavotella had a homer and two runs, and his two hits moved him into sole possession of 10th place all-time in Omaha history at 463 hits in 373 games.

A-A-RON: Omaha has a record of 12-2 in Aaron Brooks' 14 starts (one of those two losses came vs New Orleans on April 26) and in his seven starts at Werner Park, the Chasers are undefeated. The right-hander has allowed three runs or less in 11 of his 14 starts, but Omaha has won his three starts where he has given up more than three, as Brooks has a run support of 6.6 runs per game (the best among any Omaha starter with five or more starts). He has a 1.64 ERA against the Zephyrs, his best mark against any PCL opponent he has faced multiple times.

NEW OWN-LEANS: New Orleans has won eight of the ten meetings in 2014, Omaha's worst winning percentage against any opponent this season, and dating back to the start of last season Omaha is 8-18 against the Zephyrs (good for the worst winning percentage against any team at .308, edging out Iowa who the Chasers have a .321 percentage with a 9-19 record).

TO THE MAX: Justin Maxwell notched his sixth game of three hits or more in just 30 appearances for Omaha this season last night. That mark matches his total of games with three hits or more in the last four seasons (2010-13) combined (he only had two games of three hits or more in his last three seasons). Omaha is 20-10 in Maxwell's 30 games this season.

C.C. AT WERNER: Christian Colon is currently riding a 17-game on-base streak at Werner Park, tied with Brett Eibner for the longest home on-base streak this season. During this streak Colon is batting .377 (26-for-69), after he had a .213 average (16-for-75) in his first 19 games at Werner Park this season, to raise his home average to .292 this season (42-for-144).

THAT'S A RELIEF: The Omaha bullpen did not allow a runner past first base last night. Dating back to the final 2.1 innings of July vs Iowa, Chasers relievers have allowed only 11 earned runs in 36.0 innings (2.75 ERA) after allowing 17 earned runs in the first 30.1 in July (4.88 ERA). If you take out the eight runs on July 17, they have allowed three runs in 29.2 innings (0.91 ERA).

HOMER HAPPY: Omaha has a homer in six straight games, matching a season high for consecutive games (May 31-June 6 was other streak). Matt Fields leads the PCL with 13 HR since June 1.

HITS=WINS: Omaha is 20-4 when outhitting their opponent Werner Park, but have the opposite record of 4-20 when equaling hits or when they are outhit at home this season.
