Cats Lose Shootout in Albuquerque, 13-11

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Shane Peterson followed up his three-homer night by going 4-for-6, but the River Cats lost a high-scoring affair in Albuquerque by a score of 13-11 on Friday night at Isotopes Park.

After the Isotopes scored twice in the bottom of the first inning, the River Cats scored eight runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, taking an 8-2 lead into the fifth inning. Albuquerque plated five in the bottom of the fifth, to cut the lead to 8-7 after five innings. The River Cats responded with a two-run sixth inning that was highlighted by a Daric Barton run-scoring double and an Alden Carrithers RBI-triple.

The Isotopes scored once in the bottom of the sixth, then tied the game at 10 with a two-run seventh inning. The River Cats took a late lead when Carrithers drove in Peterson with a single to center field in the top of the eighth. The Isotopes got the last word, however, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, taking the 13-11 victory.

Peterson finished 4-for-6 with four runs, two RBI, and two doubles, while Carrithers went 3-for-4 with a run, two RBI, a walk, and a triple. Barton and Anthony Aliotti both collected three hits apiece, while catcher Ryan Ortiz went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI, and two walks. The loss was charged to reliever Seth Frankoff, who gave up three hits, three runs-two earned-and one walk in 1.1 innings, while starter Matt Buschmann took a no-decision after allowing seven runs-only two of which were earned-in 4.1 innings.

The win was awarded to Colt Hynes who gave up a run and three hits with two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Mike Baxter went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI for the Isotopes, while top Dodgers prospect went 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBI, a walk, and a home run.

River Cats lefty Tommy Milone (0-0, 2.25 ERA) will take on Isotopes righty Red Patterson (3-7, 5.15 ERA) at 6:05 p.m. at Isotopes Park on Saturday night as Sacramento looks to take game thee of the series.

The River Cats return to Raley Field on July 29 when the team opens an eight-game set that features four games against the Isotopes and the Las Vegas 51s.
