Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - The Tacoma Rainiers scored early and often at Aces Ballpark for the second night in a row as they defeated the Reno Aces, 7-3 Friday night.
Aces starter Charles Brewer (4-8) struggled against a potent Tacoma Rainiers lineup, surrendering six runs on 13 hits through six innings of work. The 13 hits established a season high off a Reno starter.
Top Mariners pitching prospect Taijuan Walker (4-1) picked up the win for Tacoma, giving up two earned runs on seven hits through five innings of work.
Ji-Man Choi and Humberto Quintero each picked up RBI singles in the first as Tacoma jumped out to an early lead. Xavier Avery's two-run homer to right in the second inning extended the lead, and gave the Rainiers all the offense they would need for the win. A pair of RBI doubles in the fourth and a solo homer by Jesus Montero in the ninth rounded out Tacoma's scoring.
Reno got on the board in the bottom of the second on a Garrett Weber triple and a Blake Lalli single, and Alfredo Marte singled in Mike Freeman in the bottom of the third to bring the Aces within two. Aces hitters grounded into rally-killing double plays in each of the first three innings, and grounded into four overall in the game, tying a season mark set on April 15 against Las Vegas.
A trio of Aces hitters -Freeman, Marte and Lalli -picked up a pair of hits in the loss.
The third game of the four-game series is set for Friday at Aces Ballpark. Right-hander Mark Serrano (1-0, 4.91 ERA) is set to make his first appearance for the Aces since June 12. He'll be opposed by Tacoma right-hander Jordan Pries (6-5, 3.46). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
