Iowa Cubs News Release

Round Rock, TX - Kris Bryant and Javy Baez each went deep and Tsuyoshi Wada matched a career-high with 10 strikeouts in the Iowa Cubs (53-46) 4-1 victory over the Round Rock Express (48-49) at Dell Diamond on Friday night. Bryant and Baez have each homered in consecutive nights to open this series and the Cubs have won both games.

The Express scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning. Luis Sardinas and Tomas Telis had consecutive singles and Sardinas scored as former Cub Jim Adduci reached on a fielder's choice and picked up an RBI. Wada would strike out the next two batters to end the inning and that became a theme for the left-hander. Wada fanned five straight batters, starting with Adduci to end the third and finishing with Bryan Petersen to start the fifth, and had at least one strikeout in every inning. Wada (10-6) worked six innings and allowed just three hits while striking out 10, matching his career-high in K's for the third time this year. Wada is now tied with teammate Kyle Hendricks and Nashville's Jimmy Nelson for the league-lead in victories and leads the Pacific Coast League with 120 strikeouts in 113.2 innings. The Cubs finished with 15 strikeouts as Alberto Cabrera fanned two in two innings of relief and Blake Parker struck out the side in the ninth to earn his league-best 19th save of the year. The save was the 60th of Parker's Iowa career.

The Cubs answered the Express' first-inning run with a tally of their own in the top of the second. Lars Anderson recorded the last of three straight singles against Express starter Jerome Williams to pick up an RBI. Anderson tied a season-high with three hits in the game.

In the top of the third inning, Baez lined a one-out single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games and Bryant followed with a home run into the Express' bullpen in left-center field. It was Bryant's 11th home run in 26 games with Iowa and his minor-league best 33rd overall this season. Baez added a solo home run in the fifth inning for his 16th homer of the year. Tonight was the fourth game that Bryant and Baez have homered in the same game.

Williams (0-1), also a former Cub, worked six innings and suffered the loss. Nate Adcock, Lisalverto Bonilla, and Aaron Poreda each pitched a scoreless inning in relief for Round Rock.

The Cubs and Express play game there of this four-game series at 6:05 PM on Saturday night. LH Eric Jokisch (5-8, 3.95) will start for the Cubs against RH Justin Germano (3-9, 4.31) for the Express. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940, and streamed live at iowacubs.com, with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 5:40.
