Albuquerque Dukes Beat River Cats 8-7

Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: It was retro night at Isotopes Park and the Albuquerque Dukes (46-55) handed the Sacramento River Cats (57-43) a heated 8-7 loss Saturday night with a two-out, eighth inning solo home run from Carlos Triunfel.

WHAT WENT DOWN: The Dukes jumped out to a 4-0 lead through just three innings, but the River Cats had an answer with a three-spot in the fourth. Albuquerque tacked on three more to lead 7-3, but once again Sacramento responded with four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at seven all. After a lineout and strikeout to start the bottom of the eighth inning, it seemed as though the Dukes' bats had fallen silent, and then in-stepped Carlos Triunfel, who just rejoined the team from the Los Angeles Dodgers prior to the game. Triunfel jumped on the first pitch he saw and smashed a home run over the visitor bullpen at The Lab to put Albuquerque up 8-7.

JOC JAMS: Outfielder Joc Pederson continued his tear since coming off the disabled list on July 9. He turned a 1-for-2 night including a two-run home run, two runs scored and two walks. He has reached base in 22 of his 38 plate appearances since rejoining the team, including 10 walks, six singles, two doubles, one triple, two home runs and one hit-by-pitch. The 22-year-old prospect has reached base safely in 75 of the 82 games he's played in this season.

FIGGINS FIGURING IT OUT: Utility man Chone Figgins continued his Major League rehab assignment with Albuquerque Saturday night, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk. He reached base in all four of his trips to the plate after a throwing error allowed him to reach in his first at-bat. In three rehab games he is 4-for-10 with six runs scored, an RBI and four walks.

RED HOT RED: Starting pitcher Red Patterson turned in a strong outing but did not factor in the decision. He pitched into the seventh inning and departed the game having given up only four runs. He finished the night with six innings pitched, four hits, six runs, two walks and four strikeouts. Patterson didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning.

HAT GIVEAWAY SUNDAY: Who doesn't want to receive a classic baseball hat just for attending a game? Join us at Isotopes Park and the first 3,000 fans will walk away with a hat courtesy of Mattress Firm.

ON DECK: The Isotopes will go for a series win Sunday evening at 6:05 p.m. in the series finale against the River Cats. Right-hander Carlos Frias (6-4, 4.65 ERA) is set to start for Albuquerque, while Sacramento will go with righty Arnold Leon (9-3, 4.47 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: After their four-game set against the River Cats, the Topes will welcome the Fresno Grizzlies to town for a four-game series beginning Monday, July 21.
