Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings were blanked by a 4-0 score on Tuesday night at Rogers Place by the visiting Red Deer Rebels.

The Rebels were able to jump out to an early lead for a second consecutive game against the Oil Kings and once again it would be Carson Latimer providing the game's icebreaker less than four minutes after the opening faceoff as he was able to jump on a loose puck in the slot of the Edmonton zone and whistle a low shot just inside the far post.

The Oil Kings spent a large chunk of the first period defending after being penalized three times in the opening 20 minutes but were able to kill off all three chances from the visitors to keep the deficit at just one at the first intermission.

In the second period, the Oil Kings would carry much of the play, outshooting the Rebels 12-7, but an opportunistic Red Deer team would score twice in final seven minutes of the frame to take a 3-0 lead to the second intermission.

With 6:45 left in the middle stanza, Talon Brigley snapped a shot past Logan Cunningham from the right circle to double the Red Deer lead and then just 26 seconds later, the Rebels found themselves on a power play and wasted no time connecting on it as Kai Uchacz laced home a shot from the left circle.

In the period, the Oil Kings hit a pair of posts, while a bouncing puck alluded the stick of Landon Hanson in the opening minutes of the frame on what would have been a sure goal.

A penalty filled third period for the Oil Kings thwarted any chance of a comeback for the Oil Kings and with just under nine minutes left in the game, the Rebels salted away the victory with a 5-on-3 power play goal from Jhett Larson.

The Oil Kings best chance of the period came early on when Hanson streaked in on a partial break and clanked the iron with a hot-shot from the left circle.

Cunningham finished the night making 28 saves for the Oil Kings, while Rhett Stoeser turned in 29 saves for the Rebels for his third career shutout. Edmonton went 0-for-5 on the power play, Red Deer was 2-for-8.
