Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Langley, BC - The Medicine Hat Tigers lead, trailed and persevered in 3-2 overtime victory over the Vancouver Giants Wednesday night.

Medicine Hat got out on the right foot in the first as late on a Tigers penalty, Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) would score his second goal in as many games at 17:30 to get his second shorthanded tally of the year and 4th of the season to give the Tigers the early lead after 1.

In the second period the host club Giants would respond early in the second period as Jakob Oreskovic at 3:29 would tie things up at 1-1 and then the Giants would take their first and only lead of the night as Skyler Bruce would finish for his 1st of the season at 11:41 to make it 2-1 Vancouver.

But the Tigers special teams would prove to be integral late in the second as hometown boy Tomas Mrsic, (Surrey, BC) would beat Brett Mirwald for his 3rd of the season at 17:37 from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) to make it all square at 2-2 heading to the third.

In the final frame both goaltenders in Mirwald and Tigers starter Zach Zahara (Rockyview County, AB) would be terrific to give both teams a chance but overtime would be required for the final result of the night.

Cue Oasiz Wiesblatt, with seven assists and no goals coming into the night's action, a tight play at the point right after a Medicine Hat power play would see Wiesblatt sneak in and beat Mirwald on the short-side glove to give the Tigers their 2nd win on the BC Division road-trip and improve the Orange & Black's record to 6-3-1.

In the win Zach Zahara made 27 saves for his first WHL start and second career win in the league following a relief win in Swift Current on October 6.

The Tigers special teams continued to hit pay-dirt as the power play went 1/4 while the penalty kill put up a second straight clean sheet going 2/2.

Next up for the Tigers, a trip to Kamloops for a Friday night encounter with the Blazers, before heading to Prince George Sunday to conclude their five game road-trip.
